Watson, Garnett, Ji, Stricker and Cao Lead 5-Win Week for Titleist Players

The winning momentum continued around the globe for Titleist this week, as Titleist Brand Ambassadors and golf ball loyalists added five more victories to the Titleist worldwide tour win count.

Titleist golf ball players have now recorded 45 victories across the worldwide professional tours, more than five times the nearest competitor with eight.

To date this season, the game's finest players have relied on a Titleist Pro V1 or Pro V1x golf ball 6,290 times, more than seven times the nearest competitor with 846 and more than all competitors combined.

Leading the way this week, Titleist golf ball loyalist Bubba Watson (Pro V1x) captured the 11th victory of his career, topping Kevin Kisner (Pro V1) 7 and 6 at the WGC - Dell Match Play.

The win was the 11th of Watson’s career, which includes two Masters Green Jackets and another World Golf Championship victory (2015 WGC - HSBC Champions), all with a Titleist golf ball.

Titleist was the overwhelming golf ball of choice at the WGC - Dell Match Play with 69% of players in the elite field of 64 trusting a Pro V1 or Pro V1x golf ball, more than four times the nearest competitor with 16% and more than all competitors combined.

Titleist was also the top choice in the hybrid (12) and irons (19) categories. Vokey Design Wedges topped the approach, sand and lob wedge (75) category and Scotty Cameron putters were the top choice in putters (24).

The PGA Tour also staged an opposite-field event in the Dominican Republic this week, where Titleist golf ball loyalist Brice Garnett (Pro V1) completed a wire-to-wire victory at the Corales Puntacana Championship, closing with a 2-under-par 70 in windy and rainy conditions for his first career PGA Tour title.

Garnett, who won twice on the Web.com Tour last season, finished four shots clear of fellow Titleist golf ball loyalist Keith Mitchell (Pro V1).

Opening with a blistering 9-under 63 and finishing with an 18-under 270 victory total, Garnett topped a leaderboard that included nine Titleist players among the 12 who finished in the top 10 and ties.

Titleist was the overwhelming golf ball of choice at the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship. One-hundred-five players trusted a Pro V1 or Pro V1x golf ball at Corales Golf Club, more than eight times the nearest competitor with 13 and more than all competitors combined.

Titleist was also the top choice in the hybrid (24) and irons (37) categories. Vokey Design Wedges topped the approach, sand and lob wedge (170) category and Scotty Cameron putters tied as this week's most trusted putters (48).

On the LPGA Tour, Titleist golf ball loyalist Eun Hee Ji (Pro V1x) captured the KIA Classic, topping a leaderboard that included each of the top nine finishers trusting Titleist golf balls for their success.

Ji closed with a pair of 5-under par 67’s en route to a 16-under 272 victory total.

Titleist golf ball loyalist Cristie Kerr (Pro V1) and Lizette Salas (Pro V1x) tied for 2nd place, two shots back.

Titleist was the top choice in golf balls at the Kia Classic with more than 4 of every 5 players (116) trusting a Titleist Pro V1 or Pro V1x, more than 10 times the nearest competitor with 16.

Titleist golf ball loyalist Steve Stricker (Pro V1x) earned his second consecutive PGA Tour Champions title, closing with a 4-under-par 68 to win the Rapiscan Systems Classic by three shots over Billy Andrade (Pro V1).

Stricker finished with an 11-under 205 victory total.

Stricker, who captured the Cologuard Classic three weeks ago, has recorded seven top-three finishes in nine career senior starts. In addition to the two victories, he tied for second last month in his first PGA Tour Champions start of the year.

Gene Sauers (Pro V1), Scott Parel (Pro V1x), Jesper Parnevik (Pro V1) and David McKenzie (Pro V1) tied for 3rd place at 7-under, as each of the six players who finished among the top three and ties trust Titleist golf balls for their success.

Titleist was the top choice in golf balls at the Rapiscan Systems Classic with nearly 3 of every 4 players (58) trusting a Titleist Pro V1 or Pro V1x, more than five times the nearest competitor with 10.

Entering the final round eight shots behind the overnight leader, Titleist Brand Ambassador Yi Cao (Pro V1x) rallied to capture the Chongqing Championship on the first hole of a sudden death playoff with Titleist golf ball loyalist William Harrold (Pro V1).

Cao closed with a bogey-free 9-under-par 63 to set the clubhouse lead and then birdied the first extra hole to earn his first career PGA Tour China crown.

Both Cao and Harrold finished regulation at 14-under-par 274, three shots clear of two players, including Titleist golf ball loyalist Max MacCardle (Pro V1x).

Nine of the 11 players who finished among the top 10 and ties relied upon Titleist golf balls for their success.

Titleist was the top choice in golf balls at the Chongqing Championshipwith more than 4 of every 5 players (108) trusting a Titleist Pro V1 or Pro V1x, more than 10 times the nearest competitor with 10.

Three is the Magic Number for Watson

Three rounds in the 60s. A three on the final hole to seal his spot at the top of the leaderboard. A three shot margin of victory. His third win of the season. And let’s not forget, his third Travelers Championship title.

Strange coincidence or not, it’s safe to say that three was certainly the magic number for Bubba Watson (Pro V1x) this week at TPC River Highlands.

Watson, who started the day six shots back, surged to the front of the field on Sunday by firing a final round 7-under-par 63 en route to a 17-under-par 263 victory total at the Travelers Championship.

The shot of the tournament had to be Watson’s flip wedge on the 72nd hole. Tied for the lead at the time, Watson deftly nipped the shot to the elevated green, leaving himself a tap-in birdie putt to get to 17-under-par.

Watson added, “Teddy (Watson’s caddie, Ted Scott) was telling me ‘that’s one of the best shots you’ve ever hit.’ People don’t know how difficult that really is downwind, trying to get it to stop and check.”

Watson set up the shot on No. 18 when he drove his Pro V1x nearly 350 yards into the heart of the fairway.

This spectacular performance propelled Watson to an early clubhouse lead and he ultimately finished three shots clear of four players, including Paul Casey (Pro V1) and Stewart Cink (Pro V1).

This marks the third time Watson has won the Travelers Championship, the same site where picked up his first-ever PGA TOUR title in 2010, when he also rallied from a six-shot deficit. Watson won it for a second time in 2015 and he now becomes only the second three-time winner in the tournament’s 66-year history.

Watson’s win makes him the first player on the PGA TOUR to win three tournaments during the 2017-2018 season. His previous wins came in February at the Genesis Open (for the third time) and in March at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play.

Watson now has 12 career PGA TOUR victories, including two Masters Tournament titles and two wins in World Golf Championship events, all with a Titleist golf ball.

Watson’s Third Travelers Crown Highlights 5-Win Week for Titleist

After a thrilling, yet grueling week and a historic winning performance at this year's U.S. Open Championship, it feels like the golf world has exhaled a long, deliberate breath and eased back into a more familiar routine. Schedules resumed across the worldwide professional tours and we were treated again to aggressive play and low scoring.

This week we saw good things that came in threes and record-setting performances, charges down the stretch and playoff drama. And five times this week, players raised a Titleist golf ball in celebration.

We're haven't quite reached the midway point in the 2018 season, but all told, players trusting their games to Titleist have now accumulated 109 wins across the worldwide professional golf tours. Making that figure even more impressive is the fact that it's nearly seven times the nearest competing brand with just 16 wins.

This record of success is something we’re extremely proud of, and grateful for. All of our team members work very hard to make sure that every player who tees up a Titleist can be absolutely certain that it is the very best golf ball available. Taking center stage this week was Bubba Watson (Pro V1x), who became the first player to notch three wins on the PGA Tour this season with his victory at the Travelers Championship. Watson charged from six shots back, firing a 7-under-par 63 to secure his third Travelers crown and the 12th PGA TOUR victory of his career - all earned using a Pro V1x golf ball.

Watson’s win in Connecticut marks the 22nd victory for Titleist golf ball players on the 2017-18 season, more than twice the nearest competitor with 8.

At this week's Travelers Championship, Titleist was once again the overwhelming golf ball of choice with 117 players in the field of 156 trusting a Pro V1 or Pro V1x golf ball, more than seven times the nearest competitor with 16 and more than all competitors combined.

Titleist was also the top choice in the hybrids (22) and irons categories (43). Vokey Design Wedges topped the approach, sand and lob wedge (215) category and Scotty Cameron putters were the choice of more players than any other brand with 61 in play.

Matt Wallace (Pro V1) won his second European Tour title of the season - and his third in just over a year - as he overtook Thorbjørn Olesen (Pro V1x) with a fantastic final day performance to claim the BMW International Open.

Wallace, who started the day two shots off the overnight lead, saw Olesen sign for a career-low round of 11-under 61 to post a 9-under-par total and open up a three-shot lead before the final group even teed off. Olesen’s 61 was the lowest round in BMW International Open history as well as the joint-lowest round of the season on the European Tour.

Wallace responded by making five birdies in seven holes on the final nine to sign for a spotless 7-under-par 65, good for a 10-under 268 victory total and a one shot margin of victory over three players, including Olesen, who was also seeking his second title of the season (Italian Open) and Mikko Korhonen (Pro V1x), who won the inaugural Shot Clock Masters just two weeks ago.

With the win, Wallace added to last season's victory at the Open de Portugal and his triumph at the Hero Indian Open in March.

Titleist was the most played golf ball with 112 players trusting a Pro V1 or Pro V1x, nearly six times the nearest competitor with 12.

Wallace’s win marks the 18th for Titleist golf ball players through the first 22 European Tour events this season, nine times the nearest competitor with 2.

It was an all-Pro V1, three-way playoff at the Wichita Open where Brady Schnell earned his first career Web.com Tour title with a birdie on the second extra hole.

Schnell converted a 15-foot birdie putt on the first extra hole to extend the playoff, eliminating Scott Pinckney (Pro V1, 917D2 driver, 917F3 fairway metal, 917F2 fairway metal, 718 CB/MB irons, Vokey Design SM7 wedges, Scotty Cameron 340 putter). He made a 10-footer on the second playoff hole to top Brandon Hagy for the win.

Schnell, who entered the final round in 3rd place at 10-under, closed with a 4-under-par 66 to match Pinckney and Hagy at 14-under 266. Hagy set the clubhouse lead after racing up the leaderboard with a closing 7-under 63.

Titleist was the most played golf ball with 110 players trusting a Pro V1 or Pro V1x, more than five times the nearest competitor with 20.

Titleist was also the top choice in irons (43). Vokey Design wedges topped the approach, sand and lob wedge category (211) and Scotty Cameron putters were the choice of more players than any other brand with 45 in play.

Scott McCarron (Pro V1) captured the American Family Insurance Championship by one shot, closing with an 8-under-par 64 en route to a 15-under 201 victory total.

McCarron birdied three of his final five holes to earn his first victory of the season and seventh in three years on the PGA Tour Champions.

Tournament host and first-round leader Steve Stricker (Pro V1x) closed with a 7-under-par 65 to finish in a three-way tie for 3rd, two shots behind McCarron.

Titleist was the most played golf ball with 56 players relying a Pro V1 or Pro V1x, seven times the nearest competitor with 8.

McCarron’s win marks the 9th for Titleist golf ball players through the first 14 events this season, more than twice the nearest competitor (4).

Min Chel Choi relied on a Pro V1x golf ball and Titleist clubs tee-to-green to capture his first career victory, following up a 7-under-par 64 on Saturday with a Sunday 69 en route to a 12-under 272 victory total at the KOLON Korea Open.

Choi finished two shots clear of last week’s KEB HanaBank champion SangHyun Park (Pro V1, 917D3 driver, 917F2 fairway, 818H1 hybrid, 816H1 hybrid, 718 MB irons, Vokey Design SM7 wedges, Scotty Cameron Del Mar prototype putter). Choi carded eight birdies to post a 7-under 64, the low round of the championship.

K.T. Kim (Pro V1x, 917D2 driver, 816H1 hybrid, 718 CB/MB irons, Vokey Design SM7 pitching, gap and lob wedges), Jae Woong Eom (Pro V1x, 917D2 driver, 917F3/917F2 fairways, 818H1 hybrid, 718 CB irons, Vokey Design SM7 wedges, Scotty Cameron Futura 5W putter) and Kyong Jun Moon (Pro V1x) shared 3rd place, six shots back.

The KOLON Korea Open is sanctioned by the Asian Tour and the Korea Golf Association and is part of The Open Qualifying Series. Park and Choi will be making their first appearances in The Open at Carnoustie in July, as the leading two players in the top eight and ties who were not already exempt.

Thomas's Triumph at Medinah Leads 4-Win Week for Titleist Players

Across the worldwide professional golf tours, as final events were being staged and playoff action heated up, the winning ways continued for Titleist. This week, players who trust their games to Titleist golf balls and golf clubs added four more wins to the Titleist victory count.

WEEKLY HIGHLIGHTS

• It was a 1-2 Titleist finish at the BMW Championship, where Justin Thomas secured the 10th PGA TOUR victory of his career, setting a new course record at Medinah and edging out Patrick Cantlay by two strokes as the TOUR now heads to Eastlake for the final act in the FedExCup Playoffs.

• Scottie Scheffler captured the first leg of the Korn Ferry Tour Finals, winning the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship and improving his station next year as one of the top 25 players who will be playing on the 2019-2020 PGA TOUR.

• On the PGA TOUR Champions, Doug Barron entered the winner's circle at the Dick's Sporting Goods Open, becoming the first Monday qualifier to win a Champions Tour event since 2012.

• Titleist Brand Ambassador Andrew Dodt made history this weekend on the Asian Tour, becoming the first player to win with Titleist's new T-100 irons, as he won by two shots at the Sarawak Championship.

• It was an all-Titleist finish at this year's U.S. Amateur Championship, where both the winner and the runner-up relied on Titleist golf balls and 26 of a possible 28 Titleist golf clubs as they battled down to the wire for the Havemeyer Trophy.

• Titleist players have captured a total of 134 victories across the worldwide professional tours this season. That’s more than five times the nearest competing brand with just 22 and more than all competing brands combined.

• The ball count for the 2018-19 season also checks in at 18,429 players trusting a Titleist for their success across the worldwide professional tours. That’s more than eight times the nearest competing brand with just 2,221 and more than all competing brands combined.

Let’s take a closer look at this past week’s Titleist tour highlights…

PGA TOUR

Justin Thomas captured his tenth career PGA TOUR title on Sunday, relying on a Pro V1x golf ball and Titleist clubs from tee-to-green to win in convincing fashion at the BMW Championship. The win vaults the 26-year-old to the “pole position” as the top seed heading into the FedExCup finale next week.

Thomas entered the final round at Medinah Country Club with a six-shot lead, thanks to a scintillating 61 that he shot on Saturday. His 8-birdie, 2-eagle performance broke the course record at Medinah’s No. 3 course, a 63 that had been established just 24 hours earlier.

Thomas closed the tournament out with a 4-under-par 68, good for a 25-under 263 total and a three-shot margin of victory over fellow Titleist Brand Ambassador Patrick Cantlay, who fired a final-day 7-under-par 65 to advance to the No. 2 position at The TOUR Championship at East Lake. Each of the top four players in the FedExCup Rankings play a Titleist Pro V1 or Pro V1x.

Thomas won the FedExCup Playoffs in 2017 when he won five times. In a new twist to the playoff format this year, Thomas will enter the TOUR Championship with a starting score of 10-under-par. As the second seed, Cantlay will begin Round 1 with a score of 8-under-par, followed by remaining 28 players in the field, whose beginning scores will be adjusted from 7-under-par down to even-par, based on seeding. This new format has been put in place in an effort to simplify player standings as they vie for the $15 million FedExCup prize.

Thomas's win advances the 2018-19 PGA TOUR victory total for Titleist golf ball players to 25, more than four times the nearest competitor with six and more than all other golf balls combined.

A total of 44 players (64% of the field) teed up a Pro V1 or Pro V1x golf ball at the BMW Championship, more than five times the nearest competitor with 8.

Titleist was also the top choice across the driver, hybrid, utility iron, iron and wedge categories.

KORN FERRY

Scottie Scheffler (Pro V1) had already earned his 2019-20 PGA Tour card by finishing in the top 25 on the Korn Ferry Tour regular season points list. This week, he captured the first of three Korn Ferry Tour finals events when he won the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship by two shots.

There are 25 more PGA Tour cards available in the Korn Ferry Tour Finals series, with the field made up of the top 75 players in the regular season, along with PGA Tour players who finished 125th-200 on the FedEx Cup Points list.

Scheffler closed with a 4-under-par 67 en route to a 12-under 272 winning total.

Ben Taylor (Pro V1) and Brendon Todd (Pro V1x) were among three players who tied for 2nd. In fact, Scheffler topped a leaderboard that included eight Titleist golf ball players among the top 10 finishers.

Scheffler won the Evans Scholar Invitational earlier this year and finished third on the regular season points list.

A total of 101 players (73% of the field) teed up a Pro V1 or Pro V1x golf ball at the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship, more than seven times the nearest competitor with 14.

PGA TOUR CHAMPIONS

Doug Barron (Pro V1) made an impressive return to professional golf last month when he tied for fifth at the Senior British Open after Monday-qualifying just days following his 50th birthday.

This week, he won the Dick's Sporting Goods Open after qualifying for the event on Monday once again. He became the first Monday qualifier to win on the PGA TOUR Champions since 2012.

Barron fired a final round 66 to finish with a 17-under 199 victory total, good for a two-shot margin of victory.

By winning the event, Barron is now exempt on the tour through next year. Barron had not played a PGA-Tour affiliated event since the Korn Ferry Tour in 2012. He topped a leaderboard on which 9 of the 12 players who finished among the top 10 and ties relied upon Titleist golf balls for their success.

The win is the 16th for Titleist golf ball players through the first 19 events this season, eight times the nearest competitor with 2.

A total of 62 players (80% of the field of 78) teed up a Pro V1 or Pro V1x golf ball at the event, more than seven times the nearest competitor with 8.

ASIAN

Titleist Brand Ambassador Andrew Dodt [Pro V1x golf ball, TS3 driver (9.5°), TS2 fairway metal (15°), 718 T-MB (3) and T100 (4-9) irons, Vokey Design SM7 pitching (46.10 F Grind), gap (52.12 F Grind), sand (56.10 S Grind) and lob (60.04 L Grind) wedges, Scotty Cameron Futura X putter] became the first player to win on a major professional tour with a full set of the New Titleist T-100 irons en route to a playoff win at the Sarawak Championship.

Dodt closed with a final round 8-under-par 64 to finish tied in regulation with Richard T Lee (Pro V1x), who eagled the final hole to get into the playoff with at 24-under par. Dodt then birdied the first extra hole and topped a leaderboard on which 8 of the top 10 finishers relied upon Titleist golf balls for their success, including each of the top five.

The win marked Dodt’s third career Asian Tour crown (2010 Avantha Masters, 2015 True Thailand Classic).

In addition to being the top choice in golf balls (110 players / 71% of the field), Titleist was also the field favorite in the hybrid (36), iron (35 and wedge (161) categories.

THE STORY BEHIND ANDREW DODT’S TRANSITION TO TITLEIST T100 IRONS:

Andrew Dodt has been a Titleist Brand Ambassador for his entire professional career, spanning more than 10 years. He returned to action this week following a layoff due to injury to claim his third career Asian Tour title and his first in four years.

Two weeks ago, Titleist Tour Representative Andrew Herwynen flew to Sydney to fit Dodt and a dozen other Australasian and Asian Tour players for the new Titleist irons. Following the fittings, he returned to Melbourne to build the iron sets in order to get them to players this week get them to the players. A number of players, including Dodt, put the clubs straight into play.

Even though Dodt had been a CB player for several years, it became apparent during the fitting process that he was better suited to the new T100 model. Herwynen worked closely with Dodt to confirm that he could hit all his shots and have the confidence to make the immediate change to T100. Fair to say the results proved the process worked.

Following the win, Herwynen received the following communication from Dodt: "Who would have thought… CB into T100 and take home the trophy! Very satisfying and couldn't be happier with those irons. Thank YOU mate!!!!”

U.S. AMATEUR

It was an all-Titleist final at the U.S. Amateur where both players in the championship match relied upon Titleist golf balls and 26 of a possible 28 Titleist golf clubs.

The winner, a senior at Georgia Tech, topped a senior from Vanderbilt by a 2 and 1 margin in the 36-hole finale at Pinehurst.

The winner made par on the 17th hole at the historic No. 2 for the victory. The champion actually lost four of the first five holes and was still 4-down after 11 holes. He finished 2-down after the first 18, which was played on the No. 4 course. Both players secured berths on the 2019 U.S. Walker Cup, and both will have invites to the 2020 Masters.

Inside the Counts:

According to Darrell Survey, Titleist was the overwhelming equipment choice of the 312 players in the elite amateur field.

Titleist topped the field in golf balls with 232 participants (74% of the field), more than four times the nearest competitor with 52.

Thirty (30) of the players who advanced to the Round of 32 relied upon Titleist golf balls, as did ALL of the final 16.

Titleist was also the field favorite in six of the seven major golf club categories, including fairway metals (111), hybrids (52), utility irons (105), irons (119), wedges (461) and putters (95).

Titleist was also second in the driver category with 98, just eight shy of the leader.

Justin Thomas' Favorite Shots from his 10th PGA Tour Victory

After rolling 14 feet, four inches and into the cup on Medinah’s 18th green Sunday –sealing Justin Thomas’ BMW Championship victory and sending his career PGA Tour win total into double-digits –JT’s Pro V1x golf ball took one more short, but sweet, journey.

Soon after that final putt dropped, Justin pulled the ball from his pocket and without hesitation sent it flying into his father's hands. To be sure, the effort was well played, adding to the week's list of successful up-and-downs. “I just flipped it to him,”Justin said. The delivery is instinctive, at this point, more than 135 victories later, with Mike Thomas in possession of a Titleist from each of his son’s wins dating back to elementary school. This particular Pro V1x, marked with Justin’s customary four University of Alabama-inspired red dots around the play number, will join the collection on display in the pro shop at Harmony Landing Country Club in Goshen, Kentucky, where Mike is the head PGA Professional.

Less than 24 hours after lifting the trophy at the BMW Championship, and pushing his way to the top of the FedExCup Playoffs entering this week’s finale, Justin gave Team Titleist a call to talk about his 10th PGA Tour victory and the swings he'll remember most –half of them, to no surprise, from his course-record 61 on Saturday:

Feeling the pressure of fellow Titleist staffer Patrick Cantlay cutting into his lead, Thomas hit what he called “one of the best golf shots, like overall golf shots I've hit in a really long time.”With his MB 5-iron, JT played for “a little bit of a cut,”and let the wind take it right of the hole, coming to rest 14 feet, 9 inches from the cup. He made it for birdie.

“The 5 iron that I hit on Sunday on 13 was one of the most flush shots I've hit in a long time. It was a pretty pressure situation at that point. It was just the sound that it made and like a really nice shallow divot. It just was pure. A long iron makes a lot different sound on a good iron shot than like a 9 iron, just because you're not as steep. But it was just a really good, shallow divot and was just the perfect ball flight. It was nice.”

“The putt that I hit on 12 yesterday for par was probably the most important put that I made all week. It was huge,”said Thomas, who plays a Scotty Cameron Futura X5 model.

“It was about a 15 footer up hill, a little bit right then left. Patrick had already made par so the lead would've gone down to two again if I would've missed it. The greens were quite a bit slower yesterday from the rain, and I struggled to get the ball to the hole. I kind of told myself to hit it and just made it right in the middle."

From 179 yards on the left side of the fairway, JT pulled his Titleist MB 8-iron — the same club he used to ace No. 16 this year on Masters Sunday –and played for a slight cut. His Pro V1x landed a few yards in front of the hole, took two small hops, checked and rolled into the hole for eagle. “There’s something about that club,”Thomas said.

“I know that if I strike the ball properly then I always have a pretty good idea of how it's going to react. If we're being real picky, it probably landed like a yard farther than we wanted. We’re trying to land it at like (four yards) short. But obviously it panned out just fine.”

The longest birdie drought of JT’s Saturday 61 (3 holes) ended with a 22-yard chip-in from a tricky lie in the rough left of the 14th green. With little green to work with, Thomas opened the face on his Vokey 60.12 K grind and lofted his Pro V1x into the air. The ball settled quickly a couple yards fromn the pin and rolled in.

“The chip-in on 14 was nice with my 60. That K Grind is great in pretty much every condition. I was short sided, but with the green being that soft, I was able to just lob it up in the air and let it land and roll.”

With 259 to the pin, JT took aim with his trusty 915Fd 18-degree fairway. He launched it high, twirled his club then marched down the fairway, a clear signal he’d made the swing he wanted. The ball landed about 25 feet in front of the hole, hopped and released to two feet, 11 inches, for a tap-in eagle.

“That 5-wood was really, really good. The wind was a little off the left and I just kind of slided it in there to a couple feet. To start the day, every shot that I was hitting was pretty much how I envisioned it or how I wanted it. So when you get going like that, you just kind of want to keep the hammer down.”

JT said he hit “three really good 3-woods”on 18 the final three rounds, but the most memorable came on Friday afternoon –when he roped his Titleist TS3 15-degree fairway 298 yards down the fairway, 23 yards to the hole, leaving him an easy up-and-down for birdie.

“That one Friday on 15 was really, really sweet. I mean, it was just an absolute bullet that probably went 20 yards off the ground, just a little low cut and it rolled up there almost on the green.”

Justin Thomas Wins the First TOUR Event of 2020

It was a dramatic start to a new decade on the PGA TOUR where the Sentry Tournament of Champions came down to a three-way sudden death playoff. Titleist Brand Ambassador Justin Thomas topped his final competitor (Pro V1) with a birdie on the third extra hole of what started with three participants. Each birdied the first extra hole, eliminating the third player early. All three players finished regulation at 14-under 278.

The win marked the 12th of Thomas’ PGA TOUR career, becoming only the fourth player in history with that many wins by the age of 27 — no player under 30 has more wins. It also marked his third victory in his last seven starts (BMW Championship, CJ Cup at Nine Bridges).

Trusting his Titleist Pro V1x golf ball and golf clubs from tee-through green, Thomas statistically topped the field in Birdies (24); was 2nd in Strokes Gained: Approach to Green, Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green and Putts Per Greens in Regulation (1.661); 3rd in Greens in Regulation (77.8); and 8th in Strokes Gained: Around the Green.

The lowest individual rounds of the week were three 7-under par 66’s – all by players relying upon Titleist golf balls. The first was on Thursday by Joaquin Niemann (Pro V1x), who led Thomas by one after the first round. The other two were fired by a Pro V1 player on Friday and Sunday, with his final round performance putting him into contention and the playoff.

Niemann, who secured his first PGA TOUR win in the 2019-20 season-opening A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier by six strokes, finished in a tie for 5th at 10-under par this week.

Titleist was the overwhelming leader in the golf ball category with 22 Pro V1 or Pro V1x models in play among the field of 34 - that is more than four times the nearest competitor with five (5).

Titleist also was the field favorite in utility irons (10/56%), iron sets (7/21%), gap, sand and lob wedges (49/50%) and putters (11/32%).

Half of the gap, sand and lob wedges in the bags this week are of the Vokey Design variety, more than four times the nearest competitive wedge brand with 11. Titleist also topped the all wedges category with 60 (46%) in play, as the new Vokey Design SM8 was the most played individual model with 27. The SM8 by itself (27), outnumbered all of the wedges of the next closest brand combined (21).

Titleist Brand Ambassador Patrick Cantlay finished alone in 4th place following a final round 5-under par 68 en route to an 11-under 281, three shots out of the playoff. Cantlay earned his ticket to this winners-only event by virtue of his come-from-behind victory at The Memorial, the second victory of his PGA TOUR career. Justin Thomas Returns to the PGA Championship

On Thursday of the 2019 PGA Championship, just around noontime, you could tell that Justin Thomas was locked in — steely-eyed, unspeaking — as if he were on the first tee at Bethpage Black. One hand was clutching a deli sandwich, the other tuning his iPhone into first-round coverage. Sitting inside a conference room on the second floor of Titleist Ball Plant 3 — having just witnessed how his Pro V1x golf ball is made — JT wasn’t going to miss a shot.

“I like watching guys struggle and see who can manage their game the best and grind out pars – when I’m not playing,” JT, the 2017 PGA Champion, would say later. “And Bethpage is full of that.”

“How much of the tournament will you watch this weekend?” someone in the room asked.

Justin — who typically enjoys binging on documentaries and rewatches of his favorite shows, “Entourage” and “Breaking Bad” during downtime — paused, then looked up from the screen.

“All of it."

Three days earlier, Justin had been forced to withdraw from the PGA Championship with a nagging right-wrist injury that just wasn’t ready for Bethpage’s ligament-testing rough. He hadn’t missed a major since his rookie season.

Upon departure from Long Island, Justin headed north to Patriot Place in Foxboro, Mass., home to not only Gillette Stadium and the New England Patriots, but also the TB12 Sports Therapy Center. That’s where he spent the remainder of the week undergoing intensive therapy sessions up to three times a day. (JT had received an initial referral from one of his golfing buddies, Tom Brady.)

“I went later in the healing process so the intense treatment a few times a day was good,” JT told Team Titleist. “I was very tight in my pressure points in my hand, elbow, and forearm and it was very helpful them getting worked out.”

After his morning treatment that Thursday, Justin hit the road for the 45-minute drive to New Bedford, headed for a last-minute but long-awaited visit to Ball Plant 3, Titleist’s global center of golf ball technology. He spent the next 90 minutes immersed in the manufacturing and quality processes that go into making every Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf ball — from core mixing to urethane casting to x-ray inspection. For the record, he kept the right wrist active — bouncing still-warm Pro V1 cores off the floor and tossing Pro V1x cores with fresh casing layers from one hand to the other.

Near the end of the tour, a BP3 technician who was turning the corner, recognized the major champion immediately.

“How’s the wrist feeling?”

“Good, it's getting there,” JT answered. “At least I know my golf balls are going to be ready when I come back!"

“It was just awesome,” JT recalled. “Very eye opening, but seeing the process up close also gave me even more confidence than I already had in my golf ball. I always trust my go-to cut shot — that’s a shot I’m very comfortable and most consistent with distance-control wise — and you see why I’m able to have so much confidence in it when you go through the plant.

“I’m always telling people they need to go there and experience it. The process just to make one single golf ball and then see how it’s made the exact same, thousands and thousands of times more — it just was extremely impressive. Everybody in the plant takes so much pride in working there and being a part of making the #1 ball in golf — it was so great to finally meet them.”

This week, Justin returns to the PGA Championship more than two years removed from his last appearance, but with four more wins under his belt since the visit to Ball Plant 3. His latest victory — Sunday’s three-shot triumph at the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational, his 13th Tour win in just 152 starts — moved him back to No. 1 in the world. (The wrist is working well.)

On the first tee at TPC Harding Park, Justin will tee up his Pro V1x, marked with his now-customary four red dots around the play number. The red is a nod to the University of Alabama, where he led the Crimson Tide to a national championship. There isn’t any significance to the dots, considering he changed his mark every single event as a junior golfer.

“I guess I just played well one event and stuck with it,” he said.

Clearly, he hasn’t missed many shots since.

Danielle Kang Goes Back-to-Back in First Two Events Since Competition Returns

Five shots behind with six holes to play, Danielle Kang (Pro V1x) won her second straight LPGA tour event, edging Lydia Ko (Pro V1x) by one shot at the Marathon Classic. Kang rallied with consecutive birdies on the 13th and 14th holes en route to a closing 3-under par 68 and 15-under 269 victory total. It was her fifth career LPGA Tour title.

In addition to the Pro V1x, the champion also relied upon TS3 (13.5°, 18.0°) fairway metals, 716 CB (4-9) irons, Vokey Design SM7 pitching (46°), gap (50°), sand (54°) and lob (58°) wedges, and a Scotty Cameron 009 putter for her success

Once again Titleist was the overwhelming field favorite with 124 players of the 149-player field teeing up a Pro V1 or Pro V1x golf ball .

EUROPEAN

Englishman Andy Sullivan (Pro V1x) cruised to a commanding victory at the English Championship, claiming his fourth career European Tour title. Sullivan never relinquished the lead he secured following a course-record 62 on Friday. He closed with a 6-under par 65 en route to a 27-under 257 victory total, seven shots clear of the runner-up who also trusted a Pro V1x. Sullivan advanced to 15th in the Race to Dubai Rankings with the win.

Titleist was the overwhelming top choice in golf balls with 90 (68%), more than four times the nearest competitor with 22.

KORN FERRY

Lee Hodges closed with an even-par 71 to capture the WinCo Foods Portland Open with an 11-under 273 victory total. Hodges finished two shots clear of David Lipsky (Pro V1x), who raced 34 spots up the leaderboard with a final round 6-under par 65. With the win, Hodges qualifies for the 2020 U.S. Open.

Also qualifying for being in the top five of the Korn Ferry at the end of the Portland Open are Paul Barjon (Pro V1x) and Titleist Brand Ambassadors Davis Riley and Will Zalatoris, who have already won twice and once, respectively, this year. Zalatoris finished solo 6th, three shots behind Hodges in Portland.

Ronny Glanton and Mark Blackburn Named 2020 Golf Professionals of the Year

In the game of golf, there are many people who have dedicated their careers to helping golfers of every level, skill and ability enjoy the game more. In fact, the PGA of America has close to 29,000 members who have made this their mission.

And each year the PGA of America recognizes a few members within their ranks at their National Awards. This year, we were beyond excited to learn that a couple of Titleist Staff professionals, Ronny Glanton and Mark Blackburn, were named the 2020 PGA of America Golf Professional of the Year and the 2020 PGA Teacher & Coach of the Year, respectively.

We wanted to take this opportunity to congratulate both Ronny and Mark, and to thank them for their dedication to this game we all love.

Ronny and Mark will be recognized at the PGA of America’s Annual Meeting in October in Hartford, Connecticut along with other national award winners.

Ronny Glanton, PGA, a 35-year PGA Member in the Northern Texas Section and Head Professional at Sherrill Park Golf Course in Richardson, Texas, since 1985, has demonstrated a passion and commitment to training and mentoring fellow PGA Professionals throughout his career. He has served the Association as the District 12 Director on the PGA of America's Board of Directors from 2010 to 2012 and also chaired multiple PGA of America Committees including the Associate and Tournament Committees. He has served on several other national committees and currently serves on the Membership Committee.

Glanton is also the Honorary President of the Northern Texas PGA Section after having served as President. He previously served as the Section's President in 2006 to 2007 and is the only Northern Texas PGA Section President to have served multiple terms. The most notable accomplishment under Glanton’s leadership, in 2018, was the announcement of PGA Frisco and a new home for the Northern Texas PGA. Groundbreaking for the new headquarters will begin later this year.

Receiving a Golf Professional of the Year Award is not a new feat to Glanton, however. In 2019, he was chosen as the Northern Texas PGA Section Golf Professional of the Year, and is the first PGA Member in the 52 year history of the Section to win the award three times. He previously won the Section’s highest award in 1999 and in 2007.

“I am humbled and incredibly honored to be named the Association’s 67th Golf Professional of the Year,” Glanton said of the honor. “Ross Collins, David Price, Randy Smith and so many others have paved the way as mentors and set a high standard for the Northern Texas PGA. I would personally like to thank the City of Richardson and also the late Buster Creagh, former PGA Head Professional at Sherrill Park Golf Course, for believing in me all those year ago. I look forward to proudly representing the Northern Texas Section when I accept the award later this year."

Mark Blackburn, PGA, a 14-year PGA Member in the Alabama-NW Florida Section and Director of Instruction at Greystone Golf & Country Club in Birmingham, Alabama, has been recognized for his “outstanding services as a golf teacher, innovator and coach.” A decorated PGA Member, Blackburn is a four-time Alabama-NW Florida Section PGA Teacher of the Year (2008-‘10, ‘15) and two-time Alabama-NW Florida Section PGA Professional Development Award recipient (2011, ‘18). He is also one of GOLF Magazine’s Top 100 Teachers and one of Golf Digest’s 50 Best Teachers in America. Inside the 2020 FedExCup Playoffs: By the Numbers

2019-2020 PGA TOUR Wrap Up: Titleist Success From Tee To Green

Titleist was once again the overwhelming golf equipment choice for more players and more champions than any competitive brand. Check out the highlights:

The #1 Ball in Golf

This past season, 73% of players on the PGA TOUR relied on a Titleist golf ball, teeing up a Pro V1 or Pro V1x, 3,429 times over the course of the season. That's more than six times the nearest competitor with 388 players (8%) and more than double all competitors combined.

During this same time, Titleist golf ball players recorded 23 victories (and 280 Top 10's) on the PGA TOUR, more than three times the nearest competitor with 9.

Equipment Dominance

After making history last January at the Sony Open in Hawaii by winning every major equipment category — from golf balls to drivers, fairways, hybrids, utilities, irons, wedges and putters —Titleist continued its dominance this past season, sweeping the player count across every major equipment category at five PGA TOUR events during the season and 13 over the course of the 2019 calendar year. From week to week, the tournaments staged on the PGA TOUR demand so much of players – length off the tee, precision and shot-shaping, distance control, creativity and finesse – that it speaks volumes when players trust one golf brand across every major equipment category. Justin Thomas (Pro V1x)

Thomas, who won three events during the 2019-2020 season, was named the PGA Player of the Year. His second career honor, Thomas was also named the PGA Player of the Year in 2017.

Webb Simpson: #1 ON THE PGA TOUR IN SCORING AVERAGE | 68.978 AVERAGE, NEAREST COMPETITOR: 69.127

Webb Simpson (Pro V1)

Simpson was awarded the Vardon Trophy in honor of the late Harry Vardon, which is presented annually to the touring professional with the lowest adjusted scoring average. Over 52 completed rounds, Simpson recorded an adjusted scoring average of 68.978

Stewart Cink Earns Emotional Victory at Safeway Open

After Titleist golf ball players accumulated 23 wins during the abbreviated 2019-20 PGA TOUR season, Stewart Cink (Pro V1x) kept the momentum going for the #1 ball in golf, earning an emotional victory at the Safeway Open, the first event of the 2020-21 campaign. It marked the seventh career PGA TOUR title for the 47-year old who had not won since the 2009 British Open.

Cink closed with a 7-under 65 en route to a 21-under 267 victory total, two shots clear of his nearest competitor. In addition to playing the Pro V1x golf ball, the champion also relied on two Vokey Design wedges (SM8 sand/56.08M and lob/60.04L) for his short game success

Titleist was the top choice in golf balls with 113 players (72%) in the field of 156 trusting a Pro V1 or Pro V1x, more than six times the nearest competitor with 17. Titleist was also the field favorite in drivers (42/27%), hybrids (23/32%), utility irons (33/46%), irons (46/30%) and wedges (236/54%).

NEW TITLEIST TSi DRIVER UPDATE

This was the first week of the Titleist TSi2 and TSi3 seeding and validation process on the PGA and European Tours. Some highlights:

PGA TOUR - TITLEIST was the most played DRIVER at the Safeway Open with 42 (27% of the field).

Of the 42 in play, 26 (62%) were new TSi models.
Of the 26, there were 16 TSi3 and 10 TSi2.
Chesson Hadley (TSi2/10.0°) and Bud Cauley (TSi3/9.5° driver and TSi2/13.5° fairway) were the top finishers this week, tying for 14th at -15 under par.

EUROPEAN TOUR - TITLEIST was the most played DRIVER at the Portugal Masters with 40 (30% of the field).

Of the 40 in play, 31 (78%) were new TSi models.
TSi3 was the most played individual model with 30, compared to 18 for the next closest individual model.

KORN FERRY TOUR - While we did not seed the TSi Drivers on the KORN FERRY TOUR this week, Will Zalatoris had been fit previously as he will be participating in the U.S. Open this week. Zalatoris finished 2nd by one shot at this week’s Evans Scholars Invitational. He plays a TSi3 (9.0°) and a new TSi3 fairway (16.5°)

EUROPEAN TOUR

George Coetzee secured his fifth European Tour title — and his first on European soil — holding off a chasing pack to win the Portugal Masters by two shots. The Titleist Brand Ambassador, who owned a one shot overnight lead, closed with a bogey-free 66 en route to a 20-under 268 victory total, earning his second win in as many weeks. Coetzee won at his home club [Pretoria CC] in South Africa on the Sunshine Tour last week.

Titleist Pro V1x golf ball, TS2 (10.5°) driver and TS3 (16.5°) fairway metal, U500 (2-iron) and 620 CB (4-PW) irons, Vokey Design SM8 gap (50°), sand (56°), and lob (60°) wedges.

Laurie Canter (Pro V1) finished runner-up, also making five birdies in his final round of 66, while Tommy Fleetwood (Pro V1x) was another stroke back in a tie for third with Joakim Lagergren (Pro V1). Each of the top seven finishers relied upon Titleist golf balls for their success.

Titleist was the top choice in golf balls with 96 players (73%) in the field of 132 trusting a Pro V1 or Pro V1x, more than five times the nearest competitor with 17.

LPGA TOUR

It was an all-Titleist three-way golf ball playoff at the ANA Inspiration where Mirim Lee (Pro V1x) won her first career major championship with a birdie on the first extra hole.

Lee chipped in three times on Sunday, the last one for eagle on the final hole of regulation that got her into the extra session with Brooke Henderson (Pro V1) and another Pro V1 loyalist (no contract).

Having not been in the lead at any point until holing the winning five-foot birdie putt, Lee has now won four times on the LPGA Tour. She pitched in from long range for par on the 16th, and for eagle from behind the 18th green for a final round 5-under 67 which got her into the clubhouse at the 15-under 273.

Titleist was the top choice in golf balls with 83 players (80%) in the field of 104 trusting a Pro V1 or Pro V1x, more than 10 times the nearest competitor with 8.

KORN FERRY

Curtis Thompson (Pro V1x) made a birdie on his final hole to edge Titleist Brand Ambassadors Will Zalatoris and Jimmy Stanger by one shot at the Evans Scholars Invitational. It was an emotional win for Thompson, who was ready to give up professional golf two years ago but redeemed himself with the biggest win of his career.

Thompson posted a 17-under 271 victory total. Meanwhile, Zalatoris, who leads the season-long points standings, tied the competitive course record with a closing 8-under 64 to race up the leaderboard, while Stanger carded a final round 6-under 66 to earn his best career finish.

The win was the 13th for Titleist golf ball players on the 2020 season, more than twice the nearest competitor with 5. With 104 players, Titleist was the overwhelming top choice in golf balls, more than five times the nearest competitor with 19. Titleist was also the field favorite in drivers (36/T1/23%), hybrids (16/29%), utility irons (43/45%), irons (46/30%) and wedges (205/46%).

CANADA

An amateur trusted Titleist Pro V1 to capture his first professional tournament in wire-to-wire fashion at the season-ending Canada Life Series event at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley. He posted his one shot win after carding a final round 4-under par 67 en route to a 54-hole 17-under 196 victory total.

The amateur found a little breathing room with birdies at Nos. 15 and 16, which gave him a two-shot lead with two holes to play. Yi Cao (Pro V1x) finished one stroke better than Albert Pistorius (Pro V1) this week, advancing Cao to No. 1 on the Canada Life Points List.

As a result, Cao earns a playing spot in the 2021 RBC Canadian Open at St. George’s Golf and Country Club in Toronto, courtesy of Golf Canada, and also earns conditional 2021 Mackenzie Tour status and six guaranteed tournament starts. Pistorius finished second followed by Evan Holmes (Pro V1x), as Titleist golf ball players captured all four events during the abbreviated Mackenzie Tour season.

KOREA

In similar fashion to this week’s European Tour winner, George Coetzee’s fellow Titleist Brand Ambassador HanByeol Kim posted a two-shot victory at the Shinhan Donghae Open to register his second Korean Tour victory in a row. Kim fired a final round 4-under par 67 en route to a 14-under par 270 victory total.

TaeHoon Lee (Pro V1x) closed with a 5-under 66 to finish solo 2nd. Every player who finished in the Top 10 relied upon Titleist golf balls for their success. Titleist golf ball players have won 6 of the first 7 events on the 2020 KPGA Tour.

Titleist was the most played golf ball at the event with 103 players (75%) in the field of 138, more than six times the nearest competitor with 16. Titleist was also the field favorite in drivers (53/38%), irons (57/41%) and wedges (252/68%).
