New Lefty Masterful 009 Carbon Putter

My wife and I were staying at Aviara last week to celebrate her birthday and one day we drove to the Scotty Cameron Gallery just to look around. As an early anniversary gift she told me to buy a putter and so I ended up with a Masterful 009 carbon putter in brushed black at 350 grams.

Custom Shop shaft ring

Hey, so I’m about to send in one of my Scotty’s to the custom shop. I am trying to decide whether or not to get a shaft ring or a sticker. I can’t seem to find any pictures of what the shaft ring looks like on an actual shaft. Did anyone get one? If so, how does it look? Where on the shaft do they actually place it? Could anyone possibly post a picture of one on their shaft for me?

-Also, does anyone know if it’s possible to request a black shaft to match the black putter head?

I would NOT consider a third party restoration or customization company. My reason is first you will never be able to send your putter in the scotty cameron custom shop in the future since they will not work on anything that has not been done by themselves, second your selling value of the putter may be negatively impacted significantly since putter experts like myself in the hobby would less likely purchase a third party resto or custom work, and lastly part of the fun is sending your putter to the Scotty Cameron Spa (custom shop) and getting it back with all sorts of authentic treats!

3rd Party refinishing/restoration

I know it may be blasphemous, but has anyone considered or used a 3rd (non-SC) company to restore or refinish their putter?

I inherited a late model Newport Studio 2.0 that I thought about restoration. It’s in good condition, and I have researched both the SC Custom Shop as well a coupe online services (Embrace/NorCal). SC Custom shop would be my first choice, but could get pricey. But I like the idea of the original crafters doing the work.

Likely would be changing to black matte finish and maybe some stamps and re-paint.

Just wanted to gauge the thoughts of the TT community.

I have lots of putters with the shaft ring...it looks great IMHO. they place it on the shaft where the sticker normally is placed. I would do the shaft ring if you do not mind spending a few extra dollars, it definitely is a better look. I do not have a picture handy however it looks just the like pic on the SC Customization website.

You cannot request a black shaft unless your current putter has a black shaft that was originally purchased via Scotty Cameron or one of his 4 authorized retailers in the world such as the Scotty Cameron Gallery.

I would use this to caution everyone that ebay has so many fakes of Scotty Cameron Items the list is too long to convey... I am sorry about what must be a disappointment to you.

The best place to acquire is the Scotty Cameron website or occasionally you can try the cameron collector website where most avid collectors buy, sell or trade. I would not trust ebay or another site since fakes are flooding the market unfortunately.

I recently bought the Jackpot Johnny headcover on eBay but have noticed there is no Titelist stitching. Does this mean it’s a fake?

Hi David,

I recently got my putter back from the custom shop. I posted a thread on the Australia/New Zealand forum about my experience. Feel free to have a read. Its named 'Scotty Cameron Custom Shop'.

I have a a Dual Balance Scotty and wanted the shaft ring, and couldn't select it as a option. I reached out directly to the custom shop and they said it isn't a option as the DB putter have a thicker shaft to the normal putters. I have seen photos of the shaft ring on other putters and it looks great.

I also asked them as I have opted in for the black finish on the putter head and the black grip, can I have the black shaft to match the theme of putter. The custom shop came back to advise that the black shaft is only an option for the tour pro's and not for the general public in the custom shop (which I found very annoying and frustrating!).

Should have also added that on TCC there's a section to ask if a cover or putter is real or fake.

The pictures that I posted aren't very good so I took new pictures that are much better as they show the milling on the face and the cavity. I will post the new pictures tomorrow.

Wow, that's a bad fake and sorry that you bought it.
I would suggest joining The Cameron Collector if you want to buy head covers on the secondary market if you can't tell a real one from a fake cover on eBay.

I recently acquired a used Studio Stainless Newport 2 for a great price. As the title says, what are some best DIY practices to give it a new lease of life? The face is in pretty good shape (also don't want to mess with the milling), but there are several noticeable nicks along the topline and sole. I plan on using a hand file, various grades of sandpaper, and polishing with a non abrasive metal polish like Blue Magic. I've had some experience restoring a classic png Anser 2 before (my current gamer), but this one requires a bit more work. I'm not considering the Scotty Custom Shop just yet since it feels more satisfying fixing it up myself, similar to a classic Mustang. Any and all advice appreciated, thanks in advance!

I used a flat file to take out the bigger dents along the topline, then sanded down the rest using 60, 120, 220, and 400 grit sandpaper by hand. I left the face alone except for polishing with 0000 steel wool since I wanted to keep the original milling pattern. The paintfill was done using Testors enamel paint. PM me if you would like tips on a project of your own!

I know it's a little more pricey than other options, but send it to the custom shop. It will come back LIKE NEW, and you can get some cool options like shaft labels, grips, and even stamping to really make it yours.

Hi Stu,

Sorry to be the barer of bad news, but that’s a fake. Theres supposed to be the Titleist logo under the nose of the head over in white.

Also, there’s a few issues with certain spots of the headcover and the colour.
