Wedge gapping

I'm considering upgrading irons to the AP3, I have demo'd a couple of options and am extremely impressed so far. My question is, as the PW in the set is 43* and as I'd be upgrading my SM4's at the same time, what is the wedge gapping that people use if they play the AP3 already? My first idea was 48*, 53* and 58* but from experience what effect on bounce does bending a clubs loft have, and which way is best to go? Bend a 52* F grind weaker or use a 54* S or F grind and go stronger? Thanks for any input.

@ SSmith That's interesting that you don't have a gap issue. I play C16's with a 43* PW, 47* W, 54* SM6 and an old 260.06 and I feel like I have too big a gap between my 47* W and the 54*. So much so that I'm thinking about dropping my 3 wood and adding a 50* SM7. I don't use my 3 wood much anyway.

Daniel, I just got two new wedges in the black finish, and I can say in-hand, they look amazing, and I am excited to see how they wear. I like clubs much more once they look experienced (e.g., missing finish on corners and leading edges, a little rust, etc.). This is the first go with black wedges, so I am excited. In the past I have owned a SM6 in raw, which ages very well. I’ve also owned TVD wedges in the chrome and - I think it’s called - tour satin and both were a little too shiny for my liking on sunny days. I hope that helps in your decision. SM7 Finishes

Hey Everyone - Purchasing my first set of Vokeys after getting fitted for AP2's. Super excited to get these in my bag to finish off this amazing set. I went to my local golf store and took a look at the finishes before ordering but got mixed reviews from all the employees there. Hoping to get your opinions and reviews - What is the best finish for the SM7's people are seeing / personal experiences.

I selected the raw SM7 finish for my new wedges having gone for the jet black in my previous SM5's. If you dont mind the dull and slightly rusty look of the raw after you have used them I would go for raw. I just received these beauties today! Vokey SM7 54 M.08 and a 60 D.12 both in jet black. I am so excited to play them tomorrow. My first ever Vokey Wedges. Stoked!

I use 716 AP1’s and go down to a 43* PW then a 52* / 56* / 60* vokey. I don’t find the gap between the PW to 52* an issue to be honest.

Changing from Cleveland to Vokey

I've used Cleveland wedges since the CG10. I am currently using a 588 52 and 60 degree. prior to these I thought about making the switch to Vokey but I've always had a hard time getting used to the weight difference when I do demo rounds.

Cut to now. Cleveland Wedges since the 588's came out have totally lost al of what I used to like about them. I find the newer Cleveland wedges to be completely unplayable and ugly as... something really ugly. SO, I am again wanting to move to the Vokey's fairly soon as these wedges have seen quite a bit of play and likely won't be effective for much longer.

Has anyone else gone through changes from one brand to Vokey's? How long did it take you to get used to the difference in feel and play etc...?

Rusting wedge already!

I own a brand new vokey SM6 steel gray 54 M grind less than a month old. Played 1 round with it, hit 4 shots off favorable lies except one from sand. No bare lies or anything terrible for finish. I wipe clubs off after we shots. I HATE rust on clubs, and have had none on any I have owned. I am not one of those "rust adds spin/character to your wedges" guys. I am aware that scratches and dings happen, but this club is starting to rust already after about 10 to 20 shots with it. This club did not advertise a "raw finish" and I have not heard of it happening with this before. What the heck is going on? This is my first Title is club and it might be the last, at least for wedges. The dark spots on face, not the grooves, are rust beginning to form already.

I played Cleveland wedges a few years back and made the switch to Vokey. I feel the extra weight of the Vokey wedges helps me stay down on the ball better.

I had DSGs before (58 and 64) and they were more like M grind or possibly T grind. Been Vokey all the way since 2010.

I recently switched from the RTX-3 to SM6s and the difference is night and day. My short game has vastly improved after just a few rounds. I agree with you though the weight difference is something to get used to, but I think you'll be very happy in the long run.

I have a similar issue when I’m 50-100 yds out I get plenty of spin. When I’m around the green I concentrate in chipping it close rather than trying to get spin. My local pro gave me lesson on getting spin around the green by using the bounce of my 58 deg but I found it a bit hit & miss as you have to get it right without thinning it. So my advice would be stop thinking about spin and concentrate in just chipping it close.

Hey Guys so I've been playing my SM7 Vokey wedges 56-60 degree for about 2 months now from 60-110 I'm money but when I'm close to the green I'm having trouble with getting enough spin. Any advice? Thanks, Awesome page by the way.

I have for the most part always played Cleveland wedges since the early 80's. I moved to cally same designer. Liked them well enough. Played the Vokey wedges a few times never had a real connection with them like the Cleveland wedges of old but I played those wedges a long time. Well with the help of some info on reviews I decided to try the SM 7 52 F 12 degrees of bounce and the SM 7 58D 12 degree. I found my wedges. I recently had purchased the Cleveland RTX 4 good wedge. The SM 7 will be in my bag for a long time. Fantastic wedge.

Our courses in AZ change dramatically throughout the year. The summer Bermuda is cut really tight so I play my 58/10 (sometimes my 58/8) and for the fluffier winter rye I play the 58/12.

In my mind when I wanna pull the string on the ball is try to make contact with the ground that directly is in contact with the backside of the ball.

I agree with the match stike feel but remember when you stike a match, you have to apply enough pressure to ignite the match....same goes here, you must take enough of a divot to pull the ball....but not too much as to where you’d break the match.

I bought a new vokey 54* and 60* to match my new Titleist AP1 set [which has a 44*PW and a 48*SW]. I play the 60* perhaps 200 shots per week (incl practice obviously!) and all is perfect, but I have only hit 10 shots with the 54* wedge since i bought it a month ago and it's already rusting!!! Getting hard to get the rust off afterwards now. There is a tiny scratch on the sole that rusts and a few spots on the face. Perhaps from a bunker shot [I tried it from the bunker once].
What should i do anyone? I am currently carrying an old swoosh 60* to use in the bunkers, but that's not why I bought Vokeys!!
