I just had my sixth hole in one. Five of the balls I used were Titleist. They were a DT, Hp2 tour twice, velocity and the last one on 9/5/24 was a AVX. The first hole in one was in 1973 and it was a Tom Cat struck with a Jack Nicklaus 6 iron with aluminum shaft and yes, I'm 75. www.titleist.com/.../tbmufttffqdiuthrwggi

My first hole-in-one was made with a Titleist AVX ball. I faced the par 3, 16th hole at Ladera GC in Albuquerque, NM. The pin was 138 yds out and I hit my pitching wedge high and to the left of the hole. My yellow AVX hit the green and rolled right…slowly going toward the hole and then disappearing out of sight, into the bottom of the cup! When it happened, everything slowed down when the ball dropped. The guys in my group were screaming and jumping up and down, like they were in slow motion! August 31st is one of the most remarkable days in my life! www.titleist.com/.../vvosqnezskfpwsjdhwgv www.titleist.com/.../xmuus7jrswtpywkr7dpt

Today was a great day! I joined an impromptu round with a buddy. I just bought a set of —ProV1x to test against my AVX balls, which I tend to gravitate towards. Titleist balls are good in general, but the AVX seem to work for me. Today started slow, as I was mishitting like the amateur I am..haha. Back 9 got better. And when we made it to the last hole, I was just coming off a “just missed” birdie attempt. The last hole was a 137 yd shot with some wind in play. I decided to up the club to a 9i, and tee up my AVX slightly. I hit a great shot. It started a little right of target with a nice draw. It hit the green, in a good spot to the pin. It kept rolling closer to the pin, and disappeared. Then my buddies and I went nuts. My first hole in one ever. My AVX will be forever memorized! www.titleist.com/.../jyh3ssd9trummdde5rk1 www.titleist.com/.../gstywzsgnjv7pu0tmt2l

I have been playing golf for 57 years. I play in a lot of amateur competitions but have never had a hole in one. One June 1, 2024 I scored my first ace at Pinehaven Country Club in Guilderland NY where I have played for decades. I was playing a Titleist AVX. I have played Titleist golf balls for as long as I can remember. Interestingly, it is the same hole where my husband has had 3 holes in one, all with the same club (8iron). My hole in one was with an 8 iron as well! I realize it is more than 30 days but was wondering if I could get the items Titleist provides for having a hole in one with their golf balls. www.titleist.com/.../a6w3qnn62ow7r5eqyo6b

It was a hot summer day at Rolling Hills Country Club, Home of the LPGA, located in Wichita, KS. I was participating in our member ran Bushwood Ryder Cup. The morning format was four ball. My partner and I were down 5 going into 13. 13 was playing 180 yards from the blues. I hit an 8 iron, landed about 12ft short, rolled up and dropped. I sprinted down the fairway praying the ball wasn't sitting behind the pin. A member of the opposing team raced his personal cart down the gravel road and threw his hands in the air to help me celebrate a bucket list item being checked. Titleist AVX is the only ball I'll play til God decides Golf is no longer a game I am fit to play. Go Chiefs! Nick www.titleist.com/.../wv0kavgntrdnrnitjwvg www.titleist.com/.../aih4hhvlahqjv2uq290v

It was a rainy Sunday afternoon. I had not played well. I just had a seven on a par four I came up and hit a high shot over the water. It hit just to the right of The cup and trickled in. My son went crazy. I followed him. It was a great moment to share as a father and son. I could not wait to get up there and pick up my yellow AVX out of the hole when they say there’s a first time for everything, this was truly a celebratory moment. After 45+ years of playing this wonderful game my first hole in one came on a par 4. 303 dog leg right in a scramble format. With our team in great shape with a drive down the middle I hit last and decided to go over the tree line on a direct line to the pin. My drive cleared the tree line, but I heard a click from the tee box. We couldn’t find my ball so hit our teammates 60 yards away. Our putt was about 10 feet above the hole. First teammate putted to a foot and said why is another ball in the hole. I said, “AVX, Titleist 1”, his response was yes and the celebration was on! www.titleist.com/.../shzl2ed6qu7pfmcem1ww www.titleist.com/.../akq1jl1vclblxlbyu7ha www.titleist.com/.../zz78nwhofj0fzsz4hrt3 www.titleist.com/.../zszd099uccvgwupaacgg www.titleist.com/.../fkgjv7guyinb500wdf2d

I have started playing golf 53 years ago and after countless times of hitting the flag stick or near misses, I finally made my first hole in one. It was our 3rd hole, a par 3. It was uphill with a back stick I measured at 218 yards. I hit a 3 iron that I flushed on the center of the club face and never left the flag stick, a straight shot that hit in front of the flag stick a couple of feet and rolled in for the ace. I can't begin to express how happy, excited, relieved, satisfied, etc I am. It was a long time coming and the shot was literally struck perfect, felt great, and left me with the feeling that it really could have gone in, and when we got up to the green my Titleist AVX number 4 ball was sitting in the cup! www.titleist.com/.../xc0c6o8cdwzjv5akoott www.titleist.com/.../amm8qbfrzh0wmzctyd5z

Got my first ACE after 42 years of trying. Holed it from 163 yards using a 6 iron and a TITLEIST AVX golf ball !!! He actually watched it land and go into the hole through his range finder. Making it even more special than that was that it happened on my son's birthday and he was also there that day to share in my thrilling moment I've waited so long to achieve.....THANKS TITLEIST AND THANK YOU TO MY BROTHER CHRIS FOR GETTING ME GOING IN THIS GREAT GAME WE STILL ENJOY AFTER ALL THESE YEARS !!! www.titleist.com/.../eoahgcn2woktdiu0imok www.titleist.com/.../glc0ckex4d1efylmplu1 www.titleist.com/.../otjmpak8lmt1axqtmglh www.titleist.com/.../ru5yoq7xff2ohrrtfdbi

Today, July 23, 2024, I recored my second hole in one. My first was 4/28/23 and many of my friends thought that would open the door to many more. Playing Orchard Hill GC in Shelbeyville, MI., I made aaa Hole in One on number 3. The shot was 148 yards with a 7 iron. I play AP2 irons (214 model). In the last 4 weeks I broke 3 shafts up in the handle. On 7/20/24, I broke my 6 iron, I had previously broke the 7 and 9 irons. My good friend, Bill, took the clubs to Maple Hill and had replacement shafts put in my 5 - PW. I went from a stiif to a regular shaft and also had the grips redone with an extra wrap of tape to give them a familiar feel. My friend Scott handled this for me on Sunday. First round with new shafts and reworked grips, a perfect 7 iron, hit 10' in front of hole and finished in the bottom of the cup. I only play Titleist golf balls, prefer the AVX, which was used on this shot.

After 63 years of playing the game, I finally hit a hole in one! I have purchased equipment from your website the last few years and this year, as result of your golf ball promotion, I got in the ball selector tool and stepped up to the AVX balls. I LOVE the way they feel when you strike them and feel I have gained a lot of accuracy with them. On Sunday7/7 I teed up a #4 AVX with my signature green dot on it and hit a 4H a hundred and 168 yards right in the hole. I was really fun as the green is partially hidden but the cup was where we could watch it disappear into the hole!! Aside from my AVX I was wearing my Titleist glove and favorite Titleist hat, all purchased directly from your site as well. What a wonderful experience! I am uploading a pic of "THE BALL, my glove and hat here for you to see. it was hole #6 and maybe as good a part of the whole day was, after 3 shaky shots on #7 I pulled it together, played well the rest of the way and shot 79!! Best round in a VERY LONG TIME! I am 71 and still play from the white tees at the course so that is on 6,000 yards. This was a life long career day and just a WHOLE LOT OF FUN! www.titleist.com/.../rr9wnkrwkgkx9cxz2gdj

After 50 plus years of playing golf, Bob Whipple shot his first hole in one. This occurred on the 8th hole (playing 138 yards) at Shadowbrook Resort Golf Course on June 27th. This was accomplished using the Titleist “AP-3” 9 iron, and a Titleist AVX ball, which were pulled from his Titleist golf bag. Standing on the tee Bob and his Partner heard the ball hit the pin. The unknown result could have been either really good, or hit so hard that it took a bad bounced off the green. “As we approached the Green, there was no ball in sight. With great anticipation we walked up to the pin to find the shot had slammed dunk the hole.” www.titleist.com/.../xx6hm0gizhdsmoz8sraz www.titleist.com/.../wzb5oxwmpndx5tuiqrjo

My 6th Hole-in-One was in a scramble tournament at Orange County National, the Panther Lake Course. Hole #4 - Par 3, 148yds to a blind green. A huge bunker protected the front of the green, so all you could see is the top of the flagstick. A friend had given me a brand new sleeve of AVX golfballs to try and I used a brand new Titleist AVX golf ball to tee off. I hit an 8 iron (at the time playing Titleist AP2 714's). The shot never left the top of flag, cleared the top of the bunker however, we did not see were the ball ended up. We get to the green and I go to the cup. On May 22, 2024, playing my regular weekly round at the 9 hole Bixby Village Golf Course, I was having the round of my life, having started with birdies on 1 and 3, parred 2, 4 and just missed a birdie on the 162 yard 5th hole. I walked up the the 107 yard 6th hole, pulled out my pitching wedge and hit a soft shot that started left of the hole, landed pin high and took a soft right and rolled right into the hole. My playing partner DeSean started screaming that it went into the hole but I had been fooled before and it didn't hit me until I walked up to the pin and looked down. I had holed my tee shot for my first hole in one. I was playing in a club major competition at my home club - the London Scottish Golf Club on Wimbledon Common. I hit a lovely 6 iron on the 12th hole (228 yards to a yellow pin). The ball landed softly in the middle of the green, took a couple of small bounces and trickled towards the hole and disappeared. Myself and my playing partners walked to the green, not seeing my ball I took my sand wedge with me in case my ball was off the back, but it wasn’t. So I made the nervous walk towards the hole with the usual hope, and this time… there it was!! The Titleist logo staring up at me. A very surreal moment. My playing partners first words - “That’s an expensive shot!” But I didn’t care. It was worth it. I waited 26 years for that ace, my best day on a golf course. And I won the major on countback! The day before the scheduled tournament I, Robert Hutchison, went to Dunham’s Sports in Moundsville, WV to purchase a dozen balls for the game the next day. Taking the weather into consideration I wanted to purchase the correct ball for the conditions. I would normally pick up a dozen Pro-V 1x’s and be on my way, but I read the back of the box about the ball flight, trajectory and spin. I compared Pro-V, Pro-V1x and AVX balls for my needs. I selected the AVX ball because I wanted to keep the ball out of the wind and wanted more release once it hit the ground. A Senior series event was on May 10th at a West Virginia Golf Association held tournament in Elizabeth, WV at Mingo Bottom Golf Club. I was unfamiliar with this course. Our group started on the 5th hole in wet conditions. As I assessed the 10th hole par 3 147 yards, it was downhill, across the lake with a green sloping towards me. I decided not to hit the shot too deep so I would not be putting treacherously downhill. I decided to hit a 7 iron to the lower part of the green and allow it to release up the hill. The ball landed on the front of the green and released up the hill directly at the flag stick. The ball bounced and rolled up the hill and fell into the cup. I had my fitting appointment at the National Fitting Centre at Eagles Nest today. Ryan Goodridge did an outstanding job once again ! It is so great to be able to go to a place where you can trust the recommendations. After trying steel shafts for the first time ever, it just did not feel right. Hey - to each their own. I guess that is why there are so many different options:) After working through the different T Series Irons, we settled on a blended set. 6 through PW will be T150's, 5 will be T200, and my 4 will be T350 as a driving iron. Ryan even suggested we flatten the lie on my clubs which have been up from standard for many many years. I guess my shoulder issues and my age has changed my stance and swing enough to cause the change :) Order is placed ! Looking forward to getting them in my hands and out on the links !!!! Oh yes - it was also suggested I switch from my AVX to the ProV1 in order to help increase my spin rate and control the roll out on my shots. Talk about full service ! Thank you Ryan !!!! I also had the privilege of running into Mr. Henry Brunton while I was on the range. Titleist Fitting Centre and the Henry Brunton Golf Academy both in the same place ! What more can you ask for ?

Was playing golf with my usual friend, John Radak at our home club of Coosaw Creek Country Club in North Charleston, SC last Friday afternoon. Got to the Par 3 15th hole. Teed up my Titleist AVX #4 and hit a rare (for me!) perfect shot with my 8 iron. Ball was tracking great and I watched it land in the hole on the fly! Was so shocked I asked John if he saw it bounce. He said no and thought it landed in the hole! Got to the green and there it was, in the cup! This was my 2nd one, 33 years after my last. Incredibly lucky and fortunate. www.titleist.com/.../m98vqw5qrme0fkundwen

Surely i would prefer a softer feel that what the Pro V1x Left Dash offers. I am swinging my 7 Iron at 97mph, would there be another - better option for me available? Thanks,

My first on happened while I was home on leave while in the US Air Force playing with my Dad’s normal foursome at Willow Springs Country Club, Wilson, NC, in October, 1991. Today was playing at my home course, Coosaw Creek Country Club, North Charleston, SC with my normal playing partner John Radak. Got to hole 15, Par 3, 145 yards according to my rangefinder. Took an 8 iron and hit my Titleist AVX and hit a perfect shot! Landed on the fly in the hole for my 2nd Hole-in-One! Unbelievable! What a day! www.titleist.com/.../gqsdxxmkywpslediovxt

I got out for my season opener today ! Played a course I have not been to in many many years. I forgot how hilly it was. It seemed that there wasn't a level fairway anywhere. One was either walking up a hill or down a hill :) Will certainly feel it tomorrow. Highlights : Hit 10 greens in reg; had five 1 putts to counter five 3 putts :) Obviously there is a lot of rust in the game, but it was so great to finally be out on the links once again ! I hope everyone has had a chance to get out and start their season. If not already, then soon :) My Yellow AVX treated me well today !

I started playing golf when I was 11 or 12 years old. Had a great time playing high school golf and some other competitions in the Chicagoland area. I had the opportunity to play a few tournaments while in college at Creighton University. I have always played Titleist balls! I am passionate about the game, but have never had a hole in one until April 19th at Trophy Club (Whitworth Course) in the Dallas area. On a cool, breezy morning we came to the 3rd hole, playing 137 yards with a little wind into us and off the right. The pin was left in a spot you don't go at. I hit a little knock down 8 iron with a touch of draw that started just a little left of my intended line. My Titleist AVX hit about 6-8 feet right of the pin, took one hop, checked and then rolled in the last few inches. It only took me (almost) 50 years, but well worth the wait! Thanks, Titleist!! I have been playing golf consistently now for 6 years or so and am grateful to say that is all it took to achieve the lifelong dream of scoring a Hole in One. It came on December 16th, 2023 on a course called Old South Golf Links in Bluffton, South Carolina. It was on hole #17 out there which was playing from 155 yards that day. With a stiff breeze into the face I clubbed up to an 8 iron. I wasn't playing particularly well this day but on this swing everything felt perfect. That Titleist AVX came off the clubface low but it began to rise as it got hit by the wind, but one thing was for certain it never left the pin. It landed about 3 paces short hopped what appeared to be one time and rolled in. I went pretty crazy, running and jumping around the teebox, throwing my hat as far as it would go. Leaving my club and hat on the ground I hopped in the cart with my witness (my then fiance now wife) to make our way to the green. After a quick photoshoot on the green, heading back to the tee for my belongings, It was time to tuck that ball away, write down a 1 and head to #18. Being the last tee time of the day I was spared any damage that could have taken place at the bar. It wasn't until the next day I got to go back up there and inform them on the news. They were generous enough to gift me a shot glass with the course logo and my name up on the wall of fame. Here's some of those photos from that moment in which I'll forever remember. www.titleist.com/.../zhfc1im9zu7azg6ryvne www.titleist.com/.../ybos6emqbgqjqfyfip00 www.titleist.com/.../sojv0xprz8llhua3yalp www.titleist.com/.../lrntsjnpokgt1jrlex4t

I’m an avid golfer who plays 100 plus rounds of golf a year. I am always trying out new balls. 2 years ago I discovered the amazing performance of the AVX. As someone who has has a high ball flight, the AVX certainly brings down the flight adding to driver distance. Spin approach to the green, is like a lawn dart . One of my favorite parts is the amazing soft feel off of my Scotty Cameron. It amazes me how few people actually play this ball. Thank you Titleist for allowing the AVX to be part of the buy 3 and get one free deal. Can’t wait for them to come in. Who else has joined team AVX? www.titleist.com/.../fuhn4tm10ecgcnmgtqz8

I live in Myrtle Beach. I was playing Arcadian Shores Golf club. Hole number 2 is a par 3 over water and is all carry. We were debating the length, for it was cold and windy. The hole was 145 and I decided to take my 165 club. It is a 9 wood. When I hit it I said man that felt pure. It was really high and we all stood there. It was right at it, but was the distance right? It hit the green by the pin and all of the sudden the ball was gone. I yelled did that go in???? They all said yes. After a lot of high 5s and yelling we drove up and it was indeed in the hole. 1 bounce and in. 100 dollars in drinks later I was delerious with joy. I used the only ball I play with. Hello all, New member here so please excuse me if this has been asked recently, although I have searched and could not find a related thread. I have recently returned to golfing on a regular basis. While i was away attending school (Broke student life style) i played 1-3 times a year. Before that, while still in high school i would play 40+ rounds a year with a Hcp that floated around 10. I have played the ProV1 since I could swing the club with sufficient speed. During my absence from the game, Titleist launched the AVX. In this time my Hcp has climbed to roughly an 18-20 (Hard to get an accurate gauge on 1-3rds a year) but my swing speed has increased. I swing roughly 105Mph comfortably now and consistently hit a high fade. I'm curious about everyone's experience with the AVX in comparison to the ProV1 that I typically play. I'm looking for a ball that would provide lower long range spin and a low launch angle as I naturally hit a high ball. Should I stick to the ProV1 or change things up? Thoughts, Opinions and personal experiences welcome. Swing easy, Carter.

Expecting all the non-tour level balls to be upgraded at the same time, Tour Speed and Velocity were absent in the product announcements. Tour Speed is no longer listed under Balls on the web page. Velocity apparently is still available but not updated. Repeatedly, Titleist has said they only do releases of improved versions, not just to time new releases. I’ve been curious about keeping both AVX and Tour Speed. I didn’t find much difference. Guess the market didn’t, either.

Wednesday January 10, 2024 while playing a round at the Frisco Lakes Golf Club our foursome approached the Par 3 island green 8th tee. We measured the distance at 114 yards and discussed how much to club up into the 20+ mph head wind and a temperature of 50 degrees. I decided to try a ¾ swing knock down shot with my T200 6 iron hitting a Titleist AVX ball. (Thats an over hyped description as I am not that proficient a golfer - I am more of a hit the ball and get it over the water onto the green). A smooth swing and the ball left the club on line and bounced 2 times and rolled into the hole... A lucky shot considering the conditions but I will accept it as my first Hole-In-One. Playing partners, Mike Briley, Bob Heine and Bill Urich all want to assume some level of credit for the accomplishment. www.titleist.com/.../qystpp2uek6it902wevr www.titleist.com/.../aaljwfchsouf6ui2ssvw

Reengineered from Core to Cover for Longer Distance, More Greenside Control, Softer Feel The new Titleist AVX golf ball has been reengineered from core to cover to increase performance on every shot, delivering longer distance tee to green, more greenside spin and control and even softer feel . Available in golf shops from February 3, the new AVX builds upon its unique combination of exceptional distance and extraordinary feel through advancements to every layer of the golf ball: New high gradient, high speed core delivers longer tee-to-green distance and exceptionally soft feel. New thin, high-flex casing layer provides lower spin on long game shots. New 346 quadrilateral dipyramid catenary dimple design allows for a more piercing ball flight. New softer urethane cover delivers softer feel and more greenside spin for excellent short game control. Relative to Pro V1, Pro V1x and Pro V1x Left Dash, the new AVX maintains its positioning as the lower flying, lower spinning and softer feeling performance option. “When we ask golfers why they play AVX, the answer is usually distance and feel,” said Jeremy Stone , Vice President, Titleist Golf Ball Marketing. “When we ask them what they want more of, the answer is usually greenside spin. New AVX is unique because not only were we able to give golfers more spin and control around the greens, but we were also able to improve on AVX’s strengths. Golfers are going to find the new AVX is a better golf ball across all performance attributes while still staying true to its original long and soft identity in the Titleist lineup.” AVX PERFORMANCE & TECHNOLOGY www.youtube.com/watch HIGH GRADIENT, HIGH SPEED CORE: The next generation AVX features a new high gradient, high speed core which provides longer distance from tee to green along with exceptionally soft feel. This is the same high gradient core technology found in Pro V1 and Pro V1x, which helps reduce long game spin without sacrificing greenside spin and control. “When we talk about the gradient of the core, we're talking about stiffness as it radiates from the center of the core to the outermost layers of that core,” said Mike Madson , Vice President, Titleist Golf Ball R&D. “With AVX’s core reformulated for a higher gradient, we’re able to give golfers more of that low spin and long distance with their long irons and hybrids, which is hugely important to the AVX player.” HIGH-FLEX CASING LAYER, SOFTER URETHANE COVER: Over the top of AVX’s high gradient core, a new thin, high-flex casing layer reduces excess spin in the long game, while a new softer urethane cover designed for AVX delivers increased spin and stopping power with the scoring clubs. Interactions between the core, casing layer and cover give Titleist engineers the ability to manage spin numbers optimally throughout the bag. “With three-piece construction golf balls, one of the real benefits is the hard-over-soft and soft-over-hard relationships which allow us to control spin in various aspects of the game,” Madson said. “For example, when there is a very high-speed impact condition, the cover is going to play less of a role during that collision. Most of what is interacting with the club face is that stiff casing layer and that soft core, which is a hard-over-soft relationship. When you have hard-over-soft, it drives spin down. Conversely, on shots around the green, the impact with a wedge is a lower speed collision or more of a glancing blow where the interaction is primarily between the cover and the casing layer. When you have that soft cover over that stiff casing layer, that soft-over-hard relationship drives spin up. This helps give AVX golfers the distance they enjoy at the top end of their bags as well as the greenside spin they seek with their wedges.” OPTIMISED AERODYNAMICS: Every Titleist golf ball model has a unique aerodynamics package designed to complement its individual construction and flight window while optimizing distance. A new 346 quad dipyramid catenary dimple design provides the new AVX with a piercing trajectory and helps golfers hit their preferred low flight window. This also helps maintain AVX’s separation between Pro V1 as the lowest-flying urethane offering in the Titleist golf ball family. AVAILABILITY New AVX golf balls will be offered in both white and high optic yellow. They will be available in golf shops worldwide on January 24, 2024 for $49.99 GOLF BALL FITTING AND EDUCATION Pro V1 , Pro V1x , Pro V1x Left Dash and AVX are differentiated based upon flight, spin, and feel characteristics. Compared to Pro V1, AVX flies lower, spins less, and feels softer. Golfers are encouraged to get fit for and select the Titleist golf ball model that best suits their flight, spin and feel needs. youtu.be/tkzoEGGtWDI&index=2 Hey, Team Titleist! Winter is just around the corner, but don't put your sticks away just yet! We wanted to get some advice on keeping your golf games sharp this offseason so we recently spent a day with Rico Riciputi, A PGA Professional and Titleist staff member who owns and operates Coach Club , a state-of-the-art indoor golf performance center in North Hampton, New Hampshire. In the video above, Rico talks about the benefits of working on your game indoors and he highlights three important areas of focus to keep you on-track as you look ahead to next season. Here are Rico's three keys for offseason training along with some practical ways to implement each into your practice regimen this winter. 1. Develop a Fundamentally Sound Swing Striking the ball consistently, where you want it to go, requires a reliable, repeatable golf swing. To build a more efficient swing, Rico suggests starting at the moment of truth, Impact , and examining three critical variables that launch monitors like TrackMan capture on every indoor shot – angle of attack, swing path and clubface angle. Angle of attack is the vertical direction of the club head as it moves through impact with the golf ball. On iron shots, angle of attack must be negative (descending through impact) in order to contact the ball with the sweet spot of the clubface. Rico told us that for a 7-iron, attack angle should fall between -2.5° and -4.5°. Many golfers struggle with this and mistakenly scoop upward in an attempt to get the ball airborne. This makes ball-first-then-turf contact very difficult, resulting in inconsistency. "When you're hitting balls off the ground, it's very, very important to strike the ball first, ground after," Rico said. "It's not only going to help with distance, but it's also going to help put proper spin on the golf ball. When you are not hitting down on the ball enough, you can really struggle when the lie is less than perfect. So, if the ball is sitting down in the fairway or it's sitting down in the rough, you'll have a hard time hitting the ball solid and in the air." With the driver, a positive angle of attack is usually beneficial, launching the ball higher off the tee and imparting less spin on the ball. This is the modern recipe for greater distance. Driver specs play a big role in this equation, of course, but many golfers hit down on tee shots, robbing themselves of easy distance by launching it too low and spinning the ball too aggressively to realize their full distance potential, given their swing speed with the driver. Swing Path and Face Angle - On a center-face strike, when the clubface is perfectly square (perpendicular) to the swing path, the ball will fly straight. When the clubface is oriented slightly to the left or right of the swing path, the result is a slight draw or fade. As this gap between path and face widens, the curve of the ball increases, producing bigger hooks and slices. When you work indoors with a launch monitor and start understanding this relationship, you can then make adjustments to alter the ball flight. Being able to control your face/path conditions is how to gain control over the direction and curve on all your shots. Everyone will have some variation in path from swing to swing. A positive number indicates an in-to-out path, meaning a right-handed golfer is swinging to the right of the target line. This path tends to promote a draw. "The majority of golfers that we see produce negative path numbers" Rico said. “This means that they are swinging over the top or out-to-in. For 80% of golfers, I'd recommend trying to swing a little bit more in-to-out. It's not only going to help the direction of your shots, but it's also going to help with more consistent contact." Whether you prefer a draw or fade shot shape, Rico added that a great goal is to keep your swing path within a three-degree range. Outside that range, your shot consistency will suffer greatly. 2. Implement Variable Training There are two types of practice in golf – block and variable (or random practice). In block practice, the club, the lie and the target remain constant. Shots are repeatedly hit in the same way to ingrain a new motor pattern, position, feel or to develop a new shot or technical skill. Block practice is highly effective in making a swing change, but too many golfers rely on it exclusively. As Rico told us, in order for improvements to translate onto the golf course, you must devote at least equal time to variable training. In variable practice, each shot is hit with a different club, with varying force and intention, to different targets. Variable practice mirrors the shot-to-shot variety we face during a round of golf. Indoors, Rico recommends mixing shots up in a range setting (changing club selection, targets, shot height and curve with each shot) as well as playing frequent simulator rounds on different course layouts. Indoor centers like Coach Club also have many engaging tools like TrackMan Combine, an assessment that evaluates your shot-making skills and assigns you a handicap to track your progress. Indoor league competition, par-3 and short game tournaments are also important, as they introduce a degree or pressure to practice. The more you can make practice feel like the on-course experience, the faster your improvements will start showing up where it matters – in the outdoor rounds that you play. 3. Dial in Your Equipment Winter is the perfect time for equipment maintenance. Installing new grips and checking your lofts and lies are simple measures you can take to make sure your clubs are in good working order. But indoor technology allows you to do much more. Rico explained: "If you're not seeing what you want in your ball flight, number one, let's check your mechanics to make sure you're swinging the club properly. But number two, we need to also look at your golf clubs and make sure that they're performing correctly, that you may have the right shafts, that you're optimizing distance with your driver, that you have the right wedge setup and that you have proper distance gaps throughout the set." To get an accurate read on club performance, you need precise, measured shot data. With the introduction of Titleist RCT golf ball technology , launch monitors are now able to capture true, measured spin rate – essential in order to generate accurate depictions of full ball flight. Without RCT, radar-based launch monitors must frequently estimate spin rate, which results in approximations of trajectory, carry distance, curve, etc. With RCT, there's no guessing. Indoor shot data is every bit as accurate as shot data collected outdoors, which means you can trust that what you're seeing on the indoor simulator screen is what you'll experience on the course, too. RCT has made it possible to now conduct indoor golf ball fittings. Rico had hosted two Titleist ball fitting events at Coach Club and told us that the golf ball is the best place to start when evaluating your golf equipment. RCT Pro V1, Pro V1x, Pro V1x Left Dash and AVX offer distinct differences in flight, spin and feel that can be seen clearly and instantly with comparison visualizations generated by the launch monitor software. Playing the right golf ball model for your game enhances every other improvement you make. RCT has also accelerated the development of the Vokey Wedge Fitting App , allowing you to find the perfect wedge setup for your short game. What this all means is that, indoors, you are now able to fine-tune, and have confidence in, every piece of equipment in your bag. This is a great advantage heading into a new season. One additional note – Rico pointed out that winter is also a great time to work on the engine of your game, your body. "Here at Coach Club, we have a TPI Golf Professional that brings our players through the TPI physical assessment. That really helps us identify where a player may be limited. Maybe it's hip mobility, maybe it's lack of flexibility, maybe it's strength or posture issues. But once we identify those issues, we can tailor a program that's going to help their body and their golf swing." ••• Finally, for any offseason program, Rico was quick to note that it's important to work with a qualified instructor and to formulate clear goals and a gameplan for achieving them. Some things to keep in mind: Choose an instructor (online or in-person) that you trust and stick with that teacher's approach. Far too many golfers get sidetracked by trying the latest tip that pops up in their social feed or inbox. You have to be careful to only work on issues that are relevant to your game. Be honest in assessing your strengths and weaknesses. Spend most of your time on the parts of your game that are costing you strokes. You can't cut 10 strokes off your handicap overnight. Changing motor patterns takes a lot of time, so be patient with yourself. Be accountable. In golf, instruction will do you no good if you can't realistically put in the time your coach prescribes for training and practice. As Rico told us, "If you're going to go to the gym and you want to lose 10 pounds, you're not going in there for one week. You have to spend a decent amount of time in there, putting in the work, and putting in the reps." Track your results and progress. Regularly evaluate before/after video, launch data changes and skills performance tests like TrackMan Combine to make sure your efforts are paying off. Embrace the process. It's a long journey, so make it fun and make sure you enjoy the ride! Thanks for your help, Rico! We'd love to hear your ideas too. Join the conversation and let us know what you'll be doing to keep your golf game sharp this offseason.
